Fox's Gloves

written and illustrated by Shiyi Xu

There was heavy snow in the forest where the mother fox and her cub lived. The little fox's paws froze while he was out playing, so his mother wanted to buy gloves for him from the village. But her bad memories of the village stopped her. She decided to let the little fox buy the gloves on his own, on one condition: she turned one of the little fox's paws into a human child's hand with which to buy the gloves. She told her son never to show his fox paw because humans would catch him.

But when the little fox found the shop, he accidentally reached for the gloves with the wrong hand. The shop owner was surprised, but he still sold the gloves to the little fox. On his way back, the little fox encountered more kindness from humans and returned to his mother with tales of his adventure.
