Little Squirrel's New Home

written and illustrated by İrem Sençok

Little Squirrel’s life changes when she decides to leave the Squirrel Village, as it keeps getting more and more crowded each day. Her parents give her seeds right before she leaves. Even though the seeds start to grow into plants and become heavy on her way, she doesn’t let them go. After her long journey, she moves into a beautiful tree but all she can think about is her old memories.

She isolates herself from everyone, until the day she gathers her courage to share the fruits of her plant with her neighbours. She worries that they might not like them because they are unfamiliar with the taste, but they bring their own surprises — and soon, Little Squirrel feels at home.

İrem Sençok is a Turkish illustrator based in London. She was born in Chelmsford, raised in Istanbul, and studied in a French secondary school. Overcoming the challenges of her multi-cultural childhood experiences have helped shape her creative process and become a large influence in her art practice. She hopes that children who experienced moving to a different country can find comfort in her debut picture book. She works traditionally with watercolours and coloured pencils, and loves creating character designs.
